Describes methods of test for the determination of the short-time electric breakdown voltage and electric strength of solid insulating materials at power frequencies between 48 and 61 Hz. It does not apply to the testing of gases and liquids although these are specified and used as impregnants or surrounding media for the solid materials being tested. Several modes of voltage increase are specified: rapid rise, step by step, slow rate of rise and very slow rate of rise.
