The method described consist in calculation of the most probable number (MPN) after incubation at 35 C or 37 C in liquid medium, and counting colonies in a solid medium after incubation at 35 C or 37 C. For low numbers, the MPN method is preferable, otherwise the colony count mthod is preferred. An annex A shows the determination of most probable number. An annex B gives confidence intervals for counts of less than 15 colonies.
