This standard contains definitions to terms which are used in particle size analysis without claiming to be comprehensive. Particle size analyses are of importance for a great number of industrial branches which deal with granulate or powder materials and they are used there for a long time. This was the reason why different meanings and definitions of terms have been introduced with regard to the specific material to which particle size analysis was applied. It is the purpose of this standard to harmonize these differences so that terms can be understood and applied in the same sense all over.
