The standard contains the definitions of quantities and units relevant to the dosimetry of ionizing radiations in any medical, technical or scientific field of application. The old dosimetric units Röntgen, Rad, Rem and Curie are replaced by the SI units Gray, Sievert and Becquerel. The quantity "standard ion dose" (exposure) is replaced in radiotherapy by absorbed dose, in radiodiagnostic by kerma, and in radiation protection by dose equivalent.
