Describes the file format using an abstract syntax with the former being suitable, v. ISO 8632, for the storage and retrieval of picture description information. Allows picture information to the stored on an organized way on a graphical software system; facilitates transfer of picture information between different graphical software systems; enables picture information to be transferred between graphical devices; enables picture information to be transferred between different computer graphics installations.
