The analytical method described in this standard is used to determine the composition of liquefied gases by gas chromatography. The knowledge of the composition of a liquefied gas can be important for its best use. Among other things it is required to calculate the density of the gas in accordance with DIN 51618 and the vapour pressure with DIN 51640. For the gas chromatographic analysis the gas sample, together with a carrier gas, is introduced into a separation column with a suitable filling. The components of the gas are separated from each other in this column due to their differing distribution and adsorption characteristics. The varions components emerging from the column are the registered by a detector. Mass concentration of individual components are subsequently determined by measuring the peak areas of these components on the chromatogram using correction factors.
