Is intended to replace eventually in conjunction with the other parts of this standard the IEC Publications 538 and 540. Gives for this reason in appendix A cross-references between the relevant clauses in all three publications. Lays down two methods for testing PVC componends of electric cables for power distribution and telecommunications including cables used on ships. Specifies conditioning values and testing parameters which are applicable to the most common types of insulating and sheating compounds and of cables, wires and cords.
