The purpose of the requirements contained is to ensure that the proposed irradiation conditions are met and the actual settings retained during irradiation and that unintentional exposure to irradiation of the patient, operating personnel and the environment is kept as low as reasonable achievable. The requirements specified relate to the safety, design and construction of the equipment when used for radiotherapy in human medical practice. Applicable to equipment which is intended to deliver the gamma radiation beam at normal treatment distances greater than 5 cm using a shielded radioactive source. Requirements for radiation sources are not included. Appendix A contains an index of terms and their definitions.
