The document specifies a method for the determination of the polarity of the bitumen particles in bitumen emulsions. A direct rectified current is passed through a bitumen emulsion between two parallel plate electrodes. Deposition of a layer of bitumen on the anode indicates a negative charge and that the emulsion is anionic. Deposition of particles on the cathode indicates a positive charge and that the emulsion is cationic.
