This proposed addendum allows air speed to be used to efficiently cool people indoors in the temperature range 22.5-26°C (72.5-79°F) as a way to improve comfort. The standard currently allows modest increases in operative temperature beyond the PMV-PPD ("Computer Model Method" in the standard) limits as a function of airspeed and turbulence intensity. Field studies show that occupants, especially when neutral or slightly warm, prefer higher airspeeds than currently allowed. Bases for selecting these limits are provided, as are alternatives for determining the boundaries of comfort at air speeds above 0.15 m/s.
