Provides guideline for signal quality requirements on serial data start-stop transmission. Recognizes the need to have a number of different performance categories of signal quality depending on the type of timing used. Is important if transmission or receiving equipment is furnished by different organizations. Is indended to provide a basis for agreement between parties involved. Does not describe signal quality of the DCE or the line associated with it, not describes any requirement for an acceptable bit error rate.
