This standard establishes the requirements for supplementary control points provided to enable the operating staff to shut down the reactor and maintain the plant in a safe shut-down condition when the main control room is no longer available. It covers the functional selection, design and organization of the man/machine interface. It also establishes requirements for procedures which systematically verify and validate the functional design of SCPs. It follows the principles of IAEA Safety Guide 50-SG-D8. Its purpose is to provide design requirements to be used in the design of the SCPs of nuclear power plants. The standard is intended to apply to SCPs whose conceptual design is initiated after its publication. If it is desired to apply it to existing plants or designs, special caution shall be exercised.
