Specifies procedures for a single protocol for transferring data and control information from a session entity to a peer session entity, the selection means for functional units, the setup and coding of session protocol data units. Procedures are defined in terms of the interactions between peer entities through protocol data units, the interaction between a session entity and the session service user in the same system by exchanging session service primitives, and regarding the interaction between a session entity and the transport service provider through the exchange of transport service primitives.
