Applies - in contrast to part 1 which deals with electromagnetic contactors - to those performing electrical operation by changing on state and off state of semiconductors, which are intended for use up to 1000 V a.c. or 1500 V d.c. All common items of part 1 are applicable if not specified otherwise, i.e. clauses concerning the method of construction, characteristics, and behaviour with respect to overload and temperature rise, dielectric properties, limiting values of operation, and tests. Included are also hybrid semiconductor contactors, but excluded are contactors used as motor-starters and the short-circuit protection of the main circuit.
