Aims as standardizing the correlation between the direction of the manual action applied to the actuator of a control device and the final effect caused by this action. Applies to hand-operated actuators (handwheels, handles, ect.) controlling electrical apparatus, such as regulating resistors, controllers and switches. Additional rules may be necessary for actuators operated by a part of the human body other than hand, e.g. for pedals. The object ist to enable the operator to foresee the direction of the effect, resulting from an action applied in a given direction to the actuator.
