Establishes guidelines and applies to the preparation of precautionary labeling of hazardous chemicals, as defined herein, used under industrial occupational conditions. It recommends language to be used in precautionary labeling. There are statutory and regulatory requirements such as OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard for labeling of chemicals, as well as specific statutory and regulatory requirements for certain intended uses of chemicals (for example, consumer, medical and pesticide products) that must be observed in applying this standard. It is not the intent of the standard to substitute for these requirements. The standard is meant to be appliee in a manner that is consistent with these requirements; however, many of the principles of precautionary labeling are similar to and useful for other types of products.
