Applies - in contrast to part 1 which deals with full-voltage starters - to those performing electrical operation by using autotransformers changing from their middle taps to direct mains connection after reaching normal speed, and which are intended for use up to 1000 V a.c. All common items of part 1 are applicable if not specified otherwise, i.e. clauses concerning definitions, characteristics, service and construction conditions, and tests. The breaking of short-circuit currents is excluded. The reduced torque during the starting period of about the square of the voltage ratio is discussed.
