Applies to three-phase synchronous machines of 1 kVA rating and larger, with rated frequency of not more than 500 Hz and not less than 10 Hz in compliance with IEC 60034-4 (adopted in South Africa as an identical adoption under the designation SANS 60034-4). Does not apply to axial-field machines and special synchronous machines such as inductor type machines and transversal flux machines.
