Is intended to replaces eventually in conjunction with the other parts of this standard IEC Publications 538 and 540. Gives for this reason in Appendix A a table of cross-references between the relevant clauses in all three publications. Specifies test methods to be used for testing materials of electric cables for power distribution and telecommunications including cables used on ships. Lays down conditioning values and testing parameters which are applicable to the most common types of insulating and sheathing compounds and of cables, wires and cords.
