Defines parameters and outlines test methods for measuring performance of pulse-echo medical diagnostic systems that employ single-element transducers and operate in the 0,5 MHz to 25 MHz acoustic frequency range. Doppler ultra-sound systems are not within the scope of this report. The main part consists of six clauses, in each of which a specific system performance parameter is defined and appropriate measuring procedures are outlined. The measurement of levels of acoustic output of diagnostic apparatus is specifically excluded.
