This standard specifies the limitations on the maximum number of ITU-T Recommendation G. 726 32-kbit/s adaptive differential pulse-code modulation (ADPCM) encodings allowable in 4-kHz voice grade network connections. This allows for the realization of the possible economic advantages of ADPCM use while retaining quality transmission performance capability.
