The standard contains basic specifications for the protection of steel structures from corrosion by organic and metallic coatings which are supplemented by DIN 55928 parts 2 to 9. Several basic concepts are defined and information on corrosive stresses in different media (for example air, soil water) is given. For the corrosion in the atmosphere types of atmospheres and corrosivity classes are laid down.
