The geometric conditions for measuring the reflection density specified here apply primarily to processed photographic materials but can also be applied to other materials. Not covered are situations where light has been deliberately polarized. It is important that the surface behind the specimen be spectrally non-selective, diffuse-reflecting, and has a minimum ISO reflection density of 1.50.
