Applies to insulation-enclosed switchgear above 1 kV up to 38 kV a.c. and up to 60 Hz, normally used under indoor conditions. For gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), additional specifications (IEC-Publication 517) must be considered. Metal-enclosed switchgear (IEC Publication 298) and switchgear on ships and in mines are excluded. Definitions, rated characteristics, rules for design and construction and for type and routine tests are dealt with. Several appendices contain methods of tests. The first edition 466(1974) is replaced.
