Gives a guidance to operational and maintenance personnel as to the tests required to check the condition of sulphur hexafluoride gas in electrical equipment. It contains the following topics: General properties, kinds of impurities and their effects, sampling technique, identification of gas, determination of oxygen content, determination of condensable materials, acidity and hydrolysable fluorides. Most of the test methods given are not as precise as those in IEC 376 for new SF6 but they avoid the use of elaborate equipment and the level of accuracy is acceptable.
