Describes a standard method for determining the average viscosimetric degree of polymerisation of cellulose in papers intended for use in transformer, cable or capacitor manufacture. The specific viscosity of a solution of the paper in cupriethylenediamine in measured with a capillary type viscosimeter and the intrinsic viscosity is deduced. From this the degree of polymerisation is calculated.
