This standard is Part 3 of a series of seven standards dealing with floating leisure articles for use on the water. It is applicable for floating leisure articles with a min. length over all of 120 cm (uninflated and flat) regardless whether the buoyancy is achieved by inflation or inherent buoyant material. It specifies specific safety requirements related to performance, design, sizing and marking as well as test methods for Class A devices. Class A1) devices are applicable by persons with an age above 36 months and the capability to swim. The devices are intended for static or quasi static use on the water surface (A1; A1/2); to embark one or several persons on the buoyant structure without any risk of entrapment through surrounding holding structures (devices not being worn or held); for resting, drifting, playing (active and skilful balancing (A2)), sitting/reclined sitting, laying with the body totally out of the water or only partially inside the water. Part 1 of the series of standards deals with material and general requirements which are common to all classes. Part 2 deals with consumer information in general and consumer information at point of sale. The devices are not intended to provide protection to the user as far as water safety is concerned. They are in no case PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). This standard is not applicable for buoyant aids for swimming instructions according to EN 13138-1 to EN 13138-3, inflatable boats according to EN ISO 6185, personal flotation devices according to EN ISO 12402-1 to 10 and aquatic toys according to EN 71-1. This standard is not applicable to air mattresses which are not specifically designed or intended for use on the water. This standard is not applicable to devices which are kept in shape by permanent air flow. It is also not applicable to Parts 4 to 7 of this series of standards.
